We have many  PC users in Coventry Woods, about 60% of owners are on-line.  It has been mentioned in the past that a Tips and Tricks page might be a good idea to add to our Website.  So let's try that.

When I got my second PC in Nov. 2001,  Windows XP was just out. I had waited for that. I had a big learning curve to overcome. I will just tell you briefly how I quickly came up to speed.

When I received the first colourful fancy e-mail with scrolling picture and  flowing waterfall, I thought "Wow!"  Where could I get such stationery?
I was advised of a few Websites where I could download them for free.
Cloudeight was one of these. Over time Cloudeight expanded into producing many goodies such as Screensavers, Smileycons and utility programs, etc (free of spyware and adware!)  and they started a free Newsletter called  Information Avenue.
This newsletter is full of tips and 'how to's' for Outlook Express, Vista Mail, and now Beta released Windows 7 and the various browsers, so was a great help to me in first learning XP.  They cover the basics through to advanced,  and  all that in plain English.

Cloudeight has been on-line since 1998. The creators are two on-line friends and very dedicated computer Techies. Thundercloud (Male in Ohio - does not reveal real name) and Eightball (Female) real name Darcy, who lives in Michigan. Whatever programs they recommend, you can be sure they have been thoroughly tested on their own computers. I take their advice all the time and have never been disappointed. Likewise they tell you what programs to stay away from.  Subscribe to their free Newsletter,  InfoAve, and if you get some benefit, try their expanded version with almost three times more tips, questions and answers - InfoAve Premium.  No third-party Ads.  They charge a small annual fee for that - US $11.95. The Newsletter drops into your mailbox every Friday. I look forward to going through it every weekend. One never stops learning.

I have saved hundreds of their tips and would really like to share some of what I have learned.  But first I wanted their permission to do so and also give them the credit. You may read their  approval in our guest book and copied here;

In March 2008  they launched their latest project -  an  interactive Web site called "NotOverTheHill.com". It's like MySpace or Facebook but for grown-ups. They're focusing on the over 40 crowd and by now there  are over
12,100 members and growing.  The positive comments and support for this community website continues.  Lots of things to see and do and connecting with old and new  friends every day.  I'm hooked!

So, check it out - it's free.  You meet a lot of nice mature folks on-line there and can learn from people with many talents.
